Semester Winding Down

I cant believe it is already December, time has been flying by. All the college students are pumped because some are graduating and others are getting closer to it. Christmas is near and is one of my favorite holidays. Who doesn’t like getting presents? I would have to say I like giving them more than getting them but others are different. The most exciting thing for me during this time of year is the semester is almost over and as a student we get a nice little 2 week break. This semester was a lot of fun. The class that was the best was my digital marketing one. It taught me so many things I never knew before. The key take a ways were search engine optimization, social media, and Google Adwords. In our class we did a Adwords campaign for a local small business and I learned so many things about what to do and what not to do. I wish I wasn’t so far into my marketing degree because now at the University of Michigan Dearborn they offer the Digital Marketing Degree Program and I would much rather have my degree in that because marketing is moving toward the digital aspect.

Digital Marketing Tips

To get the upper hand on the competition in marketing, people should pursue the new digital marketing degree program. One great resume builder is taking the Google Adwords Certification. This basically tells employers that you are a expert on Adwords. The test is only $50 and has 120 questions to it. For more information visit Google and type in Adwords Certification.

Ford Competition

For the Focus, our highest competition is the Honda Civic with 135,000 local monthly searches. If we optimized Honda Civic into our page When Google searching for the Civic, people will think about the Focus and this could lead to an increase in sales. The Ford Fiesta is a highly searched term, but our number one competitor for this segment is the Honda Fit. The Fit is searched for 74,000 times a month, and if optimized within the website, could provide a significant increase in sales. Our biggest competitor for the Taurus is the Chrysler 300; we need to optimize around this term so we can capture some of this market we may be missing out on. The Fusion, one of the best selling vehicles, is facing major competition from the Honda Accord. As aforementioned, focusing around this popular Honda model may have a positive effect on sales figures. For the F150 we need to try and optimize around the Dodge Ram. For our SUV segment: Expedition, Explorer, and Escape, we need to focus our keywords around our competitors; the Chevy Tahoe, Honda Pilot, and Toyota Rav4. The idea around the competition is when people are searching for our competitors vehicles, we want our name to pop up and Ford to remain in the evoked set. This highly effective technique will have a positive impact on sales.

Marketing 463

Well it has been announced today that Marketing 463 is going to be available to any student that has taken as least Marketing 352 as a prerequisite. This new marketing class would go under digital marketing category and continues to teach students students about the digital world that is out there in marketing. The new course is going to introduce the social media, and e-commerce aspect of marketing. With the market going digital, learning social media is very important for the marketer to get the upper hand on the competition. The University of Michigan Dearborn offers a one of a kind digital marketing degree program that was rolled out this year and for the average marketer who is trying to get the advantage when seeking a job, I recommend looking into this program.

Marketing Segment in Cars

For digital marketing within the United States we need to focus on a few different keywords. My first recommendation would be to focus on “fuel efficient cars” or “best fuel efficient cars”. Fuel efficient cars is a highly searched term and with the economy moving away from gas guzzling vehicles, we should optimize our page in order to capture this up and coming market. Fuel efficiency can work in any of the markets for the US; small car, medium car, SUV, or truck. Americans are looking for the best fuel efficiency when they are in the market to purchase a new vehicle. Another term that would fall under each category would be “best mpg”. Again, with the market looking to optimize gas mileage these terms are very important. One of the most searched terms that we should focus on is “hybrid cars”. As more vehicles are going green, we need to be in the evoked set so people are considering our product over the competitors. For our smaller cars, i.e. Focus and Fiesta, the term “small car” is a highly search term. If we optimized those pages with small car, it would increase the likelihood that Ford would be in the evoked set for Americans when they are in the market for a new compact car. For the medium car segment “sedan”, “best sedan”, and “best mpg car” would be the best place to start. All those terms are searched for consistently and we need to get our name in consumer’s heads so they will consider our vehicle over the competition. For SUV’s I would focus on “best hybrid suv”, “best suv for money”, and “best mpg suv”. These terms had a high relevance and if used properly, will drive more business for us. For trucks, the keywords that I would focus on are: “best mpg truck”, “best truck”, and “truck with best gas mileage”. I think these terms are most important when in the market for a new truck and if we optimize around them we will see our sales grow.
